Move it! Move it! Move it!
I've finally got an appointment with a Movement Disorder Neurologist! It's 2 months away but hey, it is an appointment. Finding one, then getting an appointment has been hard. All over the Parkinson Foundation and in the Michael J. Fox Foundation websites, in the information for newly diagnosed people, they have talked about, if possible, to see a Movement Disorder Neurologist.
Fine, but how to get a recommendation for one? There does not seem to be a lot of them, and not everyone knows they exist. I didn't.
One, you can call the Parkinson Foundation Help Line. They
have lists of them for different areas. I got a name, she sounds great, but she
is an hour away. I'd like someone local. So, I tried asking my Dr. and the
local Council on Aging. I even asked the members of the Dancing with
Parkinson's class I went to for the first time a week ago. Yep, we have one in
Yellow Springs, Ohio, my little village. Thank you Jill, we are truly blessed.
I have an appointment with the Dr. who is an hour away. Oh
well. I was able to get an appointment for November compared to one who I
wouldn't have gotten an appointment with until March of next year!
So, I SCORED! But it is still long enough away that I
decided to start taking the Sinemet. I had been hoping to get a Movement
Disorder Neurologist to take over making a plan for me. I had heard about Mao-B inhibitors from Linda
on the Parkinson's Foundation Helpline the first time I called. She said that some people took them
first. Since then I have read about them
and decided that they were not the way I should go. But these kind of choices,
I would rather make with a professional at my side. I wanted the appointment
with the movement disorder specialist, I wanted it bad.
