Parkinson’s: Parkinson’s Specific Exercises Smechersizes
A Parkinson's Specific Rant
They are exercises where you do multitasking. They drive me nuts! I know they are good for me but ooo boy, I cringe when they say “now we are going to do some Parkinson's Specifics.” Specifically, I know I am going to feel like the dimmest bulb in the room for the next 10 minutes. “Does anyone want to unmute your sound?” Well no, but I don't want to wimp out. So I turn on my sound. Now everyone can hear me struggle.
Each time, you start with a couple of repetitive movements- something not difficult- easy peasy- like, left arm up, right knee up, then right arm up and left knee up.
OK, I can do that.
Now add in when the left arm goes up count by 2's backwards from 100. Then when the right arm goes up-name a dessert.
Uh, 98, ice cream,
96, cake,
94, what are those brown squares called?
I start slowing down my marching. Where was I in the numbers?
92, cheese cake
90, …. I freeze, while desperately trying to think of one more delicious thing to eat.
Then I lose track of the physical movements and start doing them wrong.
And that is an easy one. Try counting by 3's backwards from 100 and name the states in alphabetical order. Uh huh. On a good day, I stumble with remembering the names of vegetables. And I love vegetables!
Whenever I complain to my husband he says it is good for me...............it is............
Later in the day I quickly reel off a list of desserts in my head. Dang.
Cheers,
Nancy and the Snark
Wow, that's sounds truly like the worst exercise challenge.
